We’re raising funds to install a clear, reliable scoreboard so players, juniors and our community can continue to play & watch cricket.
Storm Eowyn - has a lot to answer for!
In January 2025, during Storm Eowyn, strong winds blew our electronic scoreboard backwards, tearing it out of its concrete base and causing serious damage to the LED display and internal electrical components.
A short-term repair allowed us to get through part of the 2025 season, but the unit has since been assessed as beyond repair.
A functioning scoreboard is essential infrastructure for cricket. When ours was destroyed during Storm Eowyn, it immediately became clear how much harder it was to deliver matches and sessions. Players struggled to follow the game, spectators were confused, and volunteers faced added pressure on already busy matchdays.
Without a clear scoreboard, participation drops — particularly among juniors, new players and families who rely on visual cues to understand and enjoy the game.
Who benefits
This project will benefit:
Junior players learning the game and building confidence
New and returning adults who need clarity to stay engaged
Parents, families and spectators following matches
Volunteers, by reducing matchday pressure and confusion
In the 2025 season alone, this includes over 170 members and many more visitors who attend matches and community events.

Church Eaton Cricket Club is more than a team. It is a shared community space at the heart of village life, serving a collection of rural villages and hamlets along the Staffordshire–Shropshire border.
In the 2025 season alone, the club supported over 170 members, including juniors, senior players, volunteers and social members. we are now looking to grow this beyond 200 by also offering new opportunities' such as walking cricket for our older community.
Established in 1978, the club has deep roots in the community. Everything we offer today exists because of volunteers, with no paid staff and limited resources.

Club Chairperson - Mike Trayte
“Time is the biggest challenge for any volunteer-run club. At Church Eaton, our focus is on giving people a clear pathway into cricket from juniors aged two onwards, and making sure volunteers can spend their time supporting players — not managing avoidable problems.
A reliable scoreboard is essential. It helps juniors, new players and families understand the game, removes confusion on matchdays, and takes pressure off volunteers who are already juggling multiple roles. Replacing it removes a real barrier to participation and helps us deliver cricket properly, safely and inclusively.”
Barriers this project removes
Replacing the scoreboard removes key barriers to participation by:
Making cricket easier to understand and follow, especially for newcomers
Reducing reliance on volunteers to manually relay scores and information
Improving accessibility for spectators of all ages
Allowing sessions to run smoothly and confidently
Sustainability and long-term value
The new scoreboard will be:
Solar-powered, reducing running costs and environmental impact
Portable and movable, allowing it to be protected during bad weather
Used at every home match, junior session and community event
This ensures long-term value, protects volunteer time, and supports sustained participation in grassroots cricket for years to come.
All funds raised will be used to replace our electronic cricket scoreboard, which was destroyed during Storm Eowyn.
We are fundraising for a solar-powered, portable electronic scoreboard that can be safely stored during extreme weather and reliably used throughout the season.
A clear, visible scoreboard plays a vital role in grassroots cricket. It helps juniors and new players understand the game, supports spectators of all ages, and reduces pressure on volunteers during matchdays. Below is an example of the new proposed scoreboard.

What happens once we reach our target?
Once the crowdfunder is successful, we will:
Purchase a solar-powered, portable electronic scoreboard
Have it ready for use before the new season (April 2026)
Use it at every home match, junior session and community event
Replacing the scoreboard removes a clear barrier to participation and enjoyment.
A reliable scoreboard:
Helps juniors and new players follow the game and feel confident taking part
Makes matchdays easier to understand for parents, families and spectators, encouraging regular attendance
Reduces pressure on volunteers, allowing them to focus on coaching, safeguarding and delivering sessions
It has quickly become clear how much harder matchdays were to run and enjoy. Replacing it will directly improve the delivery of cricket activity and help people stay involved in a rural, volunteer-led club.
A functioning scoreboard is essential to playing cricket properly — without it, matches are difficult to run and participation quickly drops.
