To give 2,500 struggling Plymouth families a box of ingredients, including fresh food, to cook a nutritious Christmas dinner for 4-6 people.

 New stretch target

Beyond the initial £25,000 target we want to raise at least a further £5,000 to continue supporting access to food support in Plymouth through the year. With such wonderful generosity from local people and businesses we know we can achieve more.

Half the additional money we raise (over the £25,000 we need to deliver 2500 'Christmas In A Box' packages) will be donated to the Plymouth Food Bank, which is run by the Trussell Trust. The food banks provide essential year round support to those who need it the most.

The other half will be used to feed families in need here at The Box as part of our Community Engagement outreach projects. Your donations will enable us to reach local families who are experiencing difficulties and support them to experience The Box and enjoy a delicious cooked meal with us too.

Working with partners such as Plymouth Community Homes, Plymouth City Council and Food Plymouth's Food Action Network is enabling us to reach the people who need our support this Christmas and beyond.

THANK YOU and please continue to support our appeal.

The 'Christmas in a Box' Appeal

Can you help us to supply struggling Plymouth families with fresh food to serve for Christmas dinner? That's what the 'Christmas in a Box' idea is all about.

The idea began with Nat Tallents, Executive Chef at The Box Kitchen & Bar, who was reflecting on what a hard year this had been for many people, especially with Covid-19.

Nat explains: "This year has been such a hard one for many people and it really struck a chord with me how difficult Christmas will be for a lot of families.

I was driving to work one day, listening to the radio and I heard that around 10,000 people in Plymouth won’t get a Christmas dinner this year. That number stuck in my head.

I went to my bosses at Fosters Event Catering and the wonderful team at The Box, pitched my idea and we came up with 'Christmas in a Box'. It's a ready to cook box of tasty ingredients with recipes, to feed a family of 4 or even 6 if there’s lots of little people.

The goal is to create 2,500 boxes using fresh and store cupboard ingredients from local suppliers to be sent out to the local community by our distribution partner organisations.

2,500 boxes will feed at least 10,000 people.

That’s the only Christmas present I want this year."

Help make this Christmas wish come true

Food poverty has been high on the agenda and in the news all too often during 2020. This is a chance to help make a difference here in Plymouth. The Box Foundation has joined forces with Nat and Fosters to help make this Christmas wish come true, alongside the support of distribution partners including Plymouth Community Homes and Plymouth City Council.

Leader of Plymouth City Council, Councillor Tudor Evans OBE, has voiced his support for this campaign: "With produce from local suppliers and Nat and the team at The Box Kitchen & Bar, we've got all the right ingredients to help thousands of people enjoy their Christmas Dinner this year. All we need now Plymouth, is you".
