My aim is to fund the full illustrations for the subsequent books in my WH question book series.
Who? As a speech and language therapist, I am passionate about language and learning, and I always love using books to promote language in my therapy sessions. I created stories to inspire joint book reading and promote language development. They are designed to be read aloud with children and to enjoy talking about together. Within typical children’s language development, there are early questions we refer to as “WH” questions which children must learn in order to enhance both their understanding of language and their expressive language skills. As a parent and speech and language therapist and writer, I have always dreamed of having a resource like this at my fingertips to use with therapy sessions and for parents to use with children. Read more about me on my website: My SLT Day.
What? These stories have been constructed in a way that focuses learning of question words and what they mean as well as how to respond to them. The first 3 books are based questions: Who?, What Doing? and What? which help children to develop understanding of simple sentence structure. I have self-published the first book in this series called Who? Hide and Seek. These delightful children's picture books are created to promote language development through joint book reading. They are focused on early questions we refer to as “WH” Questions which children must learn in order to enhance both their understanding of language and their expressive language skills. They have been constructed to focus on these question words and what they mean as well as how to respond to them to develop language skills in a fun and engaging way.
Why? We know that reading is an important part of learning and that language development is fundamental to all learning. The stories are interesting and engaging and filled with whimsical and friendly illustrations which are engaging for adults and children to enjoy together. Using these stories will boost children’s understanding and confidence while inspiring of a love of language through stories.
My Mission is to get these books into schools and early years settings, sold in bookshops and available in libraries, to promote language development, to promote further awareness and training of the impact of sharing books on children's language development and early learning through a lifelong love of stories.
