Aim

We want a Sensory room & inclusive multi-sensory activity space for people of all ages with additional and/or high support needs in Bangor,

Dal Dwylo

was set up by 3 mums of young people with Severe Learning Disabilities and high support needs. We support families like ours in Gwynedd and across North Wales by providing information on Communication & AAC, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), local services and more. We work with the local ALN school and partner organisations across North Wales. We host a monthly drop in activity session in a local community centre called Hwb Hafan as well as wellbeing events for parents and carers.

This support was described as life changing by one of our families.

Our vision

Children & adults with Learning disabilities  struggle to access regular activities which are not designed to meet their needs. We want to create an inclusive, safe, welcoming and fun multi sensory activity space for people of all ages (including adults)  with additional needs and their families & carers  in Bangor, Gwynedd. Incorporating a sensory room, activity zone, craft & learning space as well as a comfort zone for parents and carers. We will incorporate a resource area for information sharing and space for lifelong learning, meetings or consultations with professionals, as well as accessible toilets and changing facilities. Providing work and volunteering opportunities for adults with learning disabilities in a safe, inclusive, community environment.
All materials on site will be presented bilingually and we will be utilising local volunteers as well as providing people with learning disabilities training and employment opportunities. The centre  will be inclusive to other local groups who may benefit from the spaces provided such as dementia groups, autism groups, mums and babies, after school clubs etc.

Bangor

is well placed at the meeting point of two counties, Gwynedd & Anglesey.  Easy access from the A55 means that travel from further afield is anticipated  - we have families from Conwy, Anglesey and Gwynedd who look forward to attending Hwb Hafan on Saturdays and there is no similar facility in North Wales.
