Building For The Future Wokingham

RCN 1121458, Reading

Building for the Future is a charity supporting disabled children and young people and their families in and around Berkshire, offering activities, support and therapies. Our ground-breaking community centre Our House is a unique accessible play centre in Wokingham, where we support over 500 families a year. Our BFTF Plus service provides support to disabled young adults who are no longer in full time education. We are moving to a new premises in summer 2026 and require significant funding to adapt and equip the new building.

Our House

With a range of facilities, including soft play, a sensory room, teen chill-out zone, PCs, gaming and free play area, at Our House, disabled children can relax, have fun and be truly valued and accepted for who they are.

Parents and carers can find support from one another, share the ups and downs, as well as finding valuable information about raising their disabled child. Siblings can make friends with other children in similar situations.

Building for the Future runs a range of events and activities throughout the year, dates and details can be found in the What’s On section on our website. Events include play and activity sessions, seasonal parties and advice sessions with therapy professionals. The facilities can also be hired for private functions including groups, meetings and birthday parties.

BFTF Plus

Building for the Future launched BFTF Plus to support young, local, disabled adults who have left school or college in working towards achieving their ambitions. We run regular workshops and social events. We also give individual advice and support for young people who want to access work, education and cultural opportunities.

Ability Hub

Building for the Future is excited to announce that we will be moving to Thames Valley Park having secured a new 15 year lease on a 3,500 sq ft facility with a wraparound garden that will be fully inclusive. This larger premises will allow us to expand our services and develop our advocacy programme giving a voice to disabled adults.

The new building will be fully operational by the Summer of 2026, so this is an exciting time for us. However, we require significant funds to adapt and equip the new building to meet our needs and to meet the increased operating costs of the new site. Your support at this crucial time will help us to continue providing our unique service to existing families, and to reach out into our community and support more disabled people and families over a wider area.
