Help them get started
Your support makes a difference
Communities spot early warning signs and act fast—Karama helps release support before crises worsen, with decisions led by those affected.
We are Karama, a small humanitarian organisation working alongside grassroots and mutual aid groups in places like Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Iraq, Somalia and beyond. These are local groups already supporting their communities every day—sharing food, offering shelter, and responding long before outside help arrives. Our role is to stand behind them: helping them access funding, connect with others, and strengthen what they’re already doing, without taking control away from them.
Our idea is simple: people see crises coming, so they should be able to act early.
In the communities we work with, this might look like local groups noticing that food prices are rising fast, families are skipping meals, or tensions are growing between neighbours. In Sudan or Somalia, it could be new families arriving and putting pressure on already stretched households. In Gaza or Syria, it might be people moving less because they feel unsafe, or worrying about what’s coming next.
We help communities share these early warning signs safely, and combine them with simple information from outside—like market prices or local developments—to build a clearer picture of what’s happening.
Then, together, communities decide: when things reach this point, what should we do? For example, if prices double and families start missing meals, they might agree to release emergency cash support, support struggling households, or start a local food programme immediately.
The money we raise will go directly to making this possible—providing fast, flexible funding to local groups, supporting simple ways to share information, and running workshops so communities can plan ahead and agree their own responses.
Our vision is a world where communities don’t have to wait for a crisis to get worse before help arrives—because they already have the support to act early.
