Campaign to save Knowle Top for the community

Aim

AKT is a community group formed to campaign for and to enable the purchase, management and development of Knowle Top for the community

Knowle Top Chapel and School Room are to cease being a place of worship and will soon be sold by the Methodist Church.  This well loved landmark building in Stannington is much used by the wider community and would be sadly missed.  Our concern is that the building or the site could be redeveloped.  A group of local people has come together, to try to secure the future of the building under community ownership.

Initially we are fundraising to cover the cost of professional fees to advise us along the route to purchase the buildings. We have applied to have the buildings listed as an Asset of Community Value with Sheffield City Council which (if it is succesfully listed) would require 6 months from the buildings being put on the market before any sale could be agreed, allowing the community 6 months to put together a purchase bid.

In this initial campaign phase we will also need money to cover the costs of a publicity campaign to alert potential supporters of our intention to purchase the buildings and to cover the cost of market research into potential future uses.
