We aim to purchase, own, maintain, and develop Knowle Top for the benefit of the community.
This includes shares sold both here and offline
The chapel has closed and it is on sale, on the open market, right now. Bids will close early in 2022 and it could soon be lost forever as a much loved community resource. But Action for Knowle Top, a small group of local volunteers, has spent a year on a plan to save Knowle Top.
Community share capital, loan capital and donations will be used to mount a credible bid for Knowle Top. That's why time is short.
The initial target for our share issue is £150,000. Our campaign initially runs from December 2021 to Friday 25th February 2022. This period may be extended at the discretion of the Society Directors. A fundraising team is organising events and applying for grant funding. We already have a mortgage in principle agreed for a further £150,000.
The Chapel and School Room are well used by the community, but Knowle Top has huge potential to become a vibrant community hub. Action for Knowle Top envisages a high-quality community space, professionally managed meeting spaces and performance facilities hosting a range of events. All available to the community for hire at affordable rates. An invaluable cultural and social hub for Stannington, run by the community, for the community.
Our mission is for Knowle Top Community Centre Limited to own, maintain and develop Knowle Top for the benefit of the community. All available to the community for hire. Educational, musical and social activities will be especially encouraged.
The former Chapel is unique, its size, layout and location offering huge potential. Imagine performance events, making the most of the tiered seating – music, drama, art, literature. Imagine conferences, funerals, weddings. Imagine school nativity plays, book festivals, stand-up comedy, a cinema!
There are other community buildings in Stannington but these are already full with their own user groups. There is demand from the wider community who have given us some great ideas for further uses for Knowle Top.
A Community Benefit Society, registered with and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, will issue £1 Community Shares, of fixed value. The offer allows us to raise the capital to buy Knowle Top and keep it as a community asset, accountable to the community it serves and benefits. The minimum purchase is 100 shares, although you may want to buy more...
Your shares give you membership of Knowle Top Community Centre Limited. Your involvement can be as much or as little as you choose, and you will have the same voting rights as every other shareholder regardless of the amount invested. You can vote at Annual General Meetings, stand for election to the Board of Directors, or just give Knowle Top your custom and support.
