Aim: Channeling funds to impactful local environmental and conservation projects across Antigua & Barbuda.
Who are we?
Antigua and Barbuda faces serious environmental threats from climate change, pollution, and activities related to tourism and unsustainable development. Local environmentalists are working tirelessly to safeguard the islands' unique ecosystems however access to funding is often challenging and time consuming. The Antigua and Barbuda Environment Foundation (ABEF) aims to provide local groups with the funds to amplify their efforts to create lasting change on the islands.
ABEF was founded in 2025 by our chair Mark Sainsbury and Conservation Collective Chair Ben Goldsmith and is dedicated to channelling new sources of funding to strengthen local initiatives that protect and restore nature. Together we will open new funding channels from individuals and businesses who love these beautiful islands and support the most effective grassroots initiatives that protect and restore their rich biodiversity.
ABEF is led by our Executive Director Issa Gonzalez-Peltier. Additionally, we have a Steering Committee comprised of core donors that steer funding decisions in partnership with local advisors.
Why are we Crowdfunding?
We are oversubscribed with amazing projects that can make a real change in Antigua and Barbuda. Through Crowdfunding we hope to amplify our current fundraising efforts to make an even bigger impact.
ABEF receives proposals 2-3 times a year so we are consistently learning about new projects that need funding. As part of our grant management process, we stay in close contact with our grantees throughout the entire length of their projects in order to provide any necessary guidance, aid in impact measurement, and provide access to experts in our global network.
Donating to our Crowdfunder will allow ABEF to fund even more amazing projects and continue our hands on approach to supporting local grassroots groups in Antigua and Barbuda.
ABEF & The Conservation Collective
ABEF is a branch of the Conservation Collective (CC), an environmental charity that launches and grows global foundations with the goal of protecting and restoring the wild places we all know and love. Since 2008 CC has launched over 20 foundations around the world and dispersed millions to grassroots groups in the process. ABEF is proud to be a member of this global network of change makers.
