I am one of only 18 teenagers who have been selected to represent Cumbria at the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in 2023.
The World Scout Jamboree happens every 4 years and, in the summer of 2023, the 25th World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) will take place in South Korea. 40,000 scouts (including 18 from Cumbria!) from 167 countries will gather on a camp that stretches 4km across. There will be 10 days of activities and events along with the chance to visit Seoul.
The Cumbria contingent are hoping to collectively fundraise almost £80,000 for our trip to South Korea. Part of this money will support scouts from less economically developed countries to attend the jamboree as well as other scouts from the UK. This will be a life changing experience for me and the rest of my team, and will give me many fond memories and many skills as I come towards adulthood. Skills I hope I can bring back to Cumbria with me and positively support others in the long term within scouting and my local community. When fundraising, I will hopefully learn lots of life skills as well as making money for the trip. Some skills are:
• Self confidence, like speaking to people at fundraising events
• Communication – speaking to potential sponsors about the WSJ and scouting
• Time management as I will have to do school things, like homework, whilst also fundraising
• Decision making, and prioritizing
• Negotiation and persuasion, and trying to get people to help me and my fellow scouts get to south Korea
• Being a role model and a representative for scouts across the world
I am grateful for all donations - large or small, and please dont forget to add gift aid if you can.
Thankyou
