Aim

This November, we're travelling from Herefordshire to Nepal to train 20 Nepalese midwives — and we're asking you to help us get there.

20 Midwives. £5,000. One Goal.

This November, we're travelling from Herefordshire to Nepal to train 20 Nepalese midwives — and we're asking you to help us get there.

For £250, you can fund the complete four-day RealBirth training programme for one midwife.

But you don't need to give £250. £5, £10, £25 or £50 all take us one step closer to our goal of training all 20.

How did this begin?

The Real Birth Studio CIC is a midwife-led Community Interest Company based in Herefordshire.

For the past few years, we have been working alongside midwives in Nepal with a shared ambition: to improve access to respectful, informed and evidence-based maternity care.

The first stage has already happened.

We have jointly invested £7,000 to translate and culturally adapt the RealBirth programme into Nepali, working in partnership with Nepalese midwives to make sure the programme is appropriate for the women and professionals who will use it.

Now we're ready for the next stage.

At the end of October, we're going to Nepal.

Our team will travel to Nepal to deliver two intensive four-day RealBirth programmes, training two cohorts of 10 Nepalese midwives.

The training will focus on dignity, choice, communication and the physiology of birth, giving midwives practical knowledge and tools they can use within their everyday maternity practice, teaching women more about birth options, planning for their births and to help with a broader understanding of birth physiology to help improve maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Our target is simple:

20 midwives × £250 = £5,000.

£250 sponsors one midwife.

£500 sponsors two.

£2,500 funds the training of an entire cohort of 10.

£5,000 means all 20 midwives can complete the programme.

But we don't want to train 20 midwives and leave.

This is the most important part of our project.

Our longer-term aim is to identify and develop Nepalese RealBirth trainers who can continue sharing the programme with other midwives. To do this we will be working with the support of the first Nepal RealBirth Teacher.

With ongoing mentoring and digital support from our UK team, we want to create a sustainable, locally led training network that can grow beyond the first 20 midwives and, eventually, reach maternity workers in more rural communities.

The knowledge stays in Nepal. The skills stay in Nepal and Nepalese midwives become the people who take the programme forward.

Why does your support matter?

A midwife doesn't care for just one woman.

Throughout their career, they will support hundreds, and may be well over a 1000  women, babies and families.

So when you help us train one midwife, the impact doesn't stop with that individual.

It continues through every woman and person they supports, every family they educate and every colleague with whom they shares that knowledge.

Help us reach 20.

You can donate whatever you can afford.

You can sponsor a midwife for £250.

Your workplace could sponsor a training day or an entire cohort.

And if you can't donate, sharing this Crowdfunder with your friends, family and colleagues will help us enormously.

On 29 October, we'll be taking RealBirth from Herefordshire to Nepal.

We would love you to be part of that journey.

20 Midwives. £5,000. One Goal.

One woman. One midwife. One birth at a time.
