Hello sweet friends,
As many of you will already know, MILK is a social enterprise set up to empower and support refugee and migrant women living in Glasgow. We run a small cafe in the Southside of the city where we aim to provide a safe and welcoming environment that promotes integration within the community.
As of Tuesday 17th March, we have had to make the incredibly hard decision to close the cafe in line with the advice to avoid "all non essential" contact. We want to do what feels right; for our staff, volunteers and members of our community here in Govanhill.
Proceeds from the cafe and our outside catering not only pay our staff the living wage, but enable us to open our space to a variety of free classes and workshops, offering a safe and supportive space for many people.
Catering cancellations started coming in early as event organisers and larger institutions took decisive action in light of the Covid-19 crisis sweeping the world, and things only got worse yesterday, when the advice came to avoid pubs, clubs, cafes and venues.
As a small independent business and social enterprise, we will not survive this without help and support.
We're currently working out where we go from here... and what the "other side" might look like.
In the meantime, we'd like to offer a variety of options and incentives for donations great and small, that will help us cover the costs of our premises, pay our staff and help our volunteers and regulars who depend on us.
Your help and support during this difficult time means the world to us. Look after yourselves and others - we hope to see you all very soon.
