We want to fund (re)Discover Streatham, an event which promotes the Unique community in Streatham.
The committee of Streatham Action thanks all of those who made donations, via this crowdfunder website, to assist with the funding of (re)Discover Streatham. Particular thanks go to Debbie Dawton, who, on behalf of the Streatham Action committee, made a donation by credit card of £600 to the crowdfunder appeal. Streatham Action subsequently reimbursed Debbie for this donation made on its behalf. The monies achieved from this crowdfunding exercise will ensure that an even bigger and better (re)Discover Streatham event will now also be able to take place next summer, above and beyond the event that took place on Saturday 13 October.
We aim to bring people together to share stories, create lasting opportunities for a better Streatham where locals can live, work and relax
The event is great because.....
We are super excited about:
* Enabling people to make new friends and find out information about what is on offer in Streatham.
* Allowing groups in Streatham to have face-to-face involvement and asset-sharing growth.
* Making Streatham a better place to live work and relax.
Whether you are new to the area or a seasoned Streathamite, with (re)Discover Streatham, Streatham Action offers you the chance to find out what is going on, meet new people and get involved with local initiatives.
Last year, several attendees told us that it was a creatively thought out event and they would come again. One lady said with excitement "when is the next one?"
Streatham's long story so far.....
It’s been around for a long time - it has a long history. It has a long High Road.It has a long swimming pool (if you consider Tooting Bec Common part of Streatham!) A long Cascade in The Rookery - which is a long walk up from the High Road. We had to wait a long time for our first coffee shop, and it’s a long time since The John Lewis Partnership closed Pratts, the department store. The list of restaurants that take part in the annual Streatham Food Festival is long and getting longer by the year, as is the list of groups, organisations and activities that make Streatham alive.
Streatham Action, a community group, part of Lambeth Civic Forum network. We are involved in running transport meetings, youth skills and employment events, discussions about crime and monitoring local planning applications, to name but a few - our list is getting longer as the community becomes more vibrant! We’d love (re)Discover Streatham to be self-financing by raising the first £1.5k for one event. We are the right people to make this happen in Streatham, so that our funds can go further to assist with the other activities that we coordinate.
Making the event happen.....
So, (re)Discover Streatham is a Saturday afternoon event in Streatham Library which brings together many of the community-based projects and not-for-profit organisations that make Streatham such a special place to live and work. We trialled it last year and it was a success! Part of the evening is spent enjoying cheese and drinks, whilst listening to some Stories of Streatham told by locals with a passion to share their knowledge. Stories are so powerful, they challenge our thinking and shape who we are.
The organisations that took part last year include The Streatham collective, Streatham Wells & St Leonards Ward Safer Neighbourhood panels, Streatham Youth and Community Trust, 1st Streatham Common Scout group, Friends of Streatham Green, Friends of Streatham Common, Streatham common Cooperative, The Woodfield project, Streatham Senior Connections, Outings for Older South Londoners, Streatham Theartre Company, Streatham St Bart's Orchestra, Sing Streatham Community Choir, Sing Out Streatham, Furzedown United FC, European Movement- Streatham, Streatham Common W1, Lambeth ADHD Parent Support Group, St Leonard's church, Norwood and Brixton Foodbank, Lambeth Mediation Service, Thrale Almshouse and Relief in Need Charity, Rotary Club of Streatham, Spires and Love Streatham. We hope to see an increased number and equally wider range of groups this year.
We long to continue to bring these organisations and Streathamites together to discover the services and activities available - every spring and in the autumn.
WE need your help.....
The money raised will allow us to continue to organise, host, follow-up and build stronger relationships with two events a year. Apart from funding. we are always looking for people to tell their stories. If you have a story you want to tell just pop along - there will be drinks and a cheese board waiting for you! Crowdfunding is important to use as it gives use the ability to develop new relationships whilst also enhancing existing relationships.
Do you feel you be-long in Streatham? and long for it to have a pro-longed and prosperous future?
Please GIVE generously to the fund. Above all, please come and get involved.
