Yorkshire Yoga and Therapy Centre provides a much loved and valued service for the community. Founded in 2005, we are a small but well established health and wellbeing charity based in Knaresborough. We provide a variety of high-quality exercise, therapy and well-being activities from our fully accessible studio and across our community via outreach projects. We believe the benefits of Yoga and Mindfulness should be available to all; irrespective of abilities, situation or finances when people need help the most.

We tailor our classes to specific user groups encouraging everyone in the community to become involved; especially those who would normally consider Yoga and Mindfulness as a route to physical / mental health and wellbeing. By tailoring our support and making it available to all we seek to empower people to look after their own physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. It is our mission to work with partners to address health inequalities and improve everyday lives or our patrons by providing the opportunity to building friendships, support networks and a community of like-minded people.

Our service offer includes specialist support such as Pregnancy, Postnatal and Mother and Baby Yoga, Chair Based Yoga / Stretch and Dance and Seated Yoga Flex and Core (Disability and 60+), Gentle Years Yoga (60+), Able and Enabled Yoga (Wheelchair Users) as well as a plethora of other classes such as Pilates, Fitness Dance, Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Childrens Yoga, Mindful Yoga and Restorative Yoga to name but a few.

A quarter of our regular students are aged between 60-93 and over 62% have a disability; with many of these people living alone and still enduring enforced lockdown, as mandated by the UK Government. For many, attending our weekly Yoga class was the only regular activity outside of the home and the only contact they have with the outside world.

Our organisation is largely non-reliant on grant funds. We use income generated by ‘paid-for’ classes to fund our charitable work. However, due to the current lockdown at the centre we have no income being generated currently and limited available funds to continue supporting our most vulnerable clients at home. Your kind donations will allow us to set up and fund specifically tailored and targeted online support for our most vulnerable students who cannot access mainstream Yoga / exercise activities. We believe this will be a lifeline to ensure that people have access to free physical and mental wellbeing practices which will maintain some kind of normality during an unprecedented time of stress and anxiety.

We thank you for your kind and generous support!
