The global COVID-19 pandemic has led to big changes on the radio dial but we aim to bring back your favourite local presenters.
The global COVID-19 pandemic has led to big changes on the radio dial including the loss of some locally made programmes here in North Yorkshire. Presenters you know including Ben & Laura, Victoria Charles, Tim Lichfield, Elisa Hilton and Paul Spence have got together with YorkMix to launch a new radio station and we want you to a part of our launch adventure. Don't worry if your favourite presenter isn't listed yet, there are more still to be announced!
What Will YorkMix Radio do?
YorkMix Radio will broadcast from North Yorkshire, to North Yorkshire on DAB+, Smart Speaker, App and Online. It will provide an outlet for local charities, organisations and businesses to connect with the wider community, plus we'll play all your favourite songs and update you on the news and information for our part of the world. In short, we'll bring you everything you've come to expect from us!
Why do you need help?
Our partnership with YorkMix has already secured the ability to source and report on the local news stories that matter to you and we're now working on getting the radio station on air. This isn't a good time to launching a radio station funded by advertising and yet businesses and organisations in the area have never needed us more. The government is no longer licensing FM radio stations as all radio will move to digital platforms very soon and YorkMix Radio will be a the forefront of this switch to digital. In fact we've arranged some very special DAB+ radio adapters for cars as part of our Crowdfunder rewards!
How will this Crowdfunding campaign help?
The biggest cost for a radio station like ours is transmission and to secure our launch in these uncertain times when advertising rates are at an all time low and business confidence shattered we're crowdfunding to pay for the first six months of our transmitters. Your support will allow our team time to grow an advertising base to secure the long term future of this much needed service.
What are your team doing to support the new station?
All of our team are helping to fund the equipment, studios and infrastructure as well as donating their own time to make it a success. They each believe that there is a need for the service and that they have a responsibility to make it happen.
Throughout the pandemic our presenters have continued to provide entertainment and information on their own social media channels, even when their previous radio stations have disappeared. They care about York and North Yorkshire and they want to provide you with a radio service that you can be proud of. As an independent radio station we'll be able to react quickly to breaking news, play your requests and support local artists too.
What happens when I donate?
We have some very special rewards to thank you for your donation including your chance to pick up some exclusive launch merchandise.
In addition to our individual supporter packages we have included some commercial opportunities for businesses to secure advertising on our new station at hugely, never to be repeated, discounted rates. If you are business wanting to advertise with us this is most effective way to be a part of our launch and you'll also be a part of securing our future. Of course you will also benefit from having your messages broadcast on YorkMix Radio.
When will you launch?
Our plan is to launch a Christmas radio service in November and December called XmasMix - after all, we all need some festive cheer this year! This will be followed in January by our full time radio service with all of your favourite presenters including Ben and Laura, back where they belong, on the breakfast show.
