Aim

Over the past year dog fouling has become an issue on one of our pitches. Help us protect our young players with a new fence to the pitch.

Over the past 140 years Workington Zebras have operated as a community rugby club offering a home for men, women and children of all abilities.

We're proud to be active in our community and alongside our inclusive adult teams (Zebras, Finches and Steelers) we now have 5 youth teams with girls and boys aged between 6 and 18 experiencing the teamwork, fitness and fun of playing rugby with their friends (and of course making new ones too).

We need your help...

1615973172_bar.jpgWe've all suffered throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and sadly the club is no exception. Without our usual match-days, funds from the bar and private parties our finances have taken a devastating hit and threaten the future of the club.

Running a rugby club isn't quite as simple as hosting games ever weekend, we have a development plan in place to make our grounds safe, secure and the best they can be, not just for our players and supporters now, but for the youth teams who are the future of the club.

A safe and clean space to train

Our playing and training fields should be a safe space for our players whether they are 5 years old or 50. As you may know we have three pitches, two of which are secured behind fences and our team are able to keep them to a standard we're proud of.

Sadly our second playing pitch (to the front right of the club) is a little less loved. The low fences mean that a number of dog walkers in the area are using the pitch as a toilet (and not cleaning up their dog's messes!). I'm sure you'll agree this isn't a great environment for our youth teams to train and play on and despite warnings and signage, the message doesn't seem to be getting across to those dog owners.

We would be using these funds to secure the pitch via a new fence (with future plans to install flood lighting to allow our teams to play and train on darker evenings).

We know times are tight for many at the moment, but please give as much as you can to support us – think about all the pints you would have bought from us during the Six Nations!

We are looking to raise £10,000 and we simply can't do this alone, so we're asking for help from our members, supporters and friends to help improve the club for years to come.

Targets

With £10,000 raised we will be able to install a 1.8 m fence around the Paddock.

For an extra £2,000 raised we can also buy and convert a freight container.1615973469_1200-cafe-container_7447-960x640.jpg

An additional £5,000 can supply temporary floodlighting for the pitch.1615973600_sportstar_12-ad90f.jpg
