WNSC is aiming to raise £10,000 by late Aug 2020 to keep our club alive and transition swimmers back into the sport they love post lockdown.

Who are we?

West Norfolk Swimming Club has gained a strong reputation over many years for developing young swimmers from the area through professional and structured coaching in a competitive and supportive environment.

Our programme aims to maximise the potential of each individual swimmer and help them become the best they can be whilst enjoying the process of learning and improving in and around the pool. It is designed to ensure swimmers are ready to perform and excel in a competitive environment be that at Club, County, Regional or National level.

Why are we raising funds?

As a result of the Coronavirus crisis the club has been unable to train since March, with it’s members kept away from the sport they love. Our tight-knit ‘family’ has been forced to adapt and find new ways to keep united until we can one day return to the water. Land training in our living rooms and keeping in touch over Zoom can only go so far.

To support our swimming family, the club’s committee elected to suspended members’ fees until July and from then will still only charge a nominal 20% fee until training can safely resume.

However, with the club still incurring ongoing costs, this decision has a significant impact on club finances, depleting reserve funds. This difficulty has been further compounded by the loss of revenue generating events such as open meets and galas which would normally make key contributions to the club’s financial well-being.

We also anticipate additional costs with our return to the pool in terms of pool costs and additional safeguarding for coaches and swimmers. The funds raised will allow us to absorb these costs.

What will these funds be used for?

We are raising funds to help keep the club alive, to ensure we can continue offering the high quality provision to swimmers in the West Norfolk area who wish to pursue competitive swimming. We really believe that West Norfolk Swimming Club can change lives and we hope to do so for many, many years to come.

To help encourage donations to our funding campaign, our swimmers will be undertaking a lockdown challenge as a team, attempting to run and cycle their way along the length of the UK’s coastline during the length of the campaign. That’s a total of 17,820 kilometres, or 11,073 miles! We will monitor the team's progress and update our supporters regularly.

Double your money!

The good news is that Sport England and Crowdfunder have launched a fund to help us. Importantly, the fund will match our contributions by pledging £5,000 to our fundraising pot once we have raised £2,500, we then need to make sure we raise the final £2,500 to meet our target otherwise the Sport England pledge money is withdrawn. We need at least 50 of you to show your support and help us reach our target to ensure that we keep the pledge money from Sport England.

We are a hugely valued part of the local community and hope that you will contribute to our project.

Thank you in advance for your support
