This August 21st - 23rd We Out Here Festival will run as a digital festival, online & on-air, bringing the best of the festival to your homes! In the build up, and over our digital festival, we will be raising funds for a number of charities that fight racial injustice and support Black culture: as part of our ongoing responsibility as a musical organisation to raise awareness, celebrate & keep the focus on supporting Black communities.
All money raised will be split between the following six charities: People Dem, Tomorrow's Warriors, Black Cultural Archives, Black Minds Matter, Abram Wilson Foundation and The Black Curriculum. 6 incredible organisations across Black culture, mental health and education.
People Dem Collective is a community organisation based in Margate, founded by members of the Black, Brown and Diaspora communities from across Thanet and beyond. They are working towards launching a new national cultural centre with a local focus but a national reach that will enhance the existing cultural offer of Margate.
Tomorrow’s Warriors is an innovative jazz music education and artist development organisation who have helped develop some of favourite current and no doubt, future musicians. Founded by Janine Irons MBE FRSA and Gary Crosby OBE, it is committed to increasing diversity across the arts through jazz, with a special focus on those from the African diaspora and girls.
Black Cultural Archives is the only national heritage centre dedicated to collecting, preserving and celebrating the histories of African and Caribbean people in Britain. Their founders came to the conclusion that what was needed was a space where members of the community, especially young people, could come and find positive representations of themselves in history and culture.
Black Minds Matter connects Black individuals and families with free professional mental health resources in the UK. So far they have raised money to support 750 individuals through 12 week courses of therapy, however need to double this figure to cover all of the people who have reached out for the service.
The Abram Wilson Foundation’s mission is to support young people to become the greatest version of themselves through music. Their aims are threefold: to ensure equal access to music, to equip young people with transferable skills and to to help support the future of music in the UK.
The Black Curriculum is a social enterprise founded in 2019 by young people to address the lack of Black British history in the UK Curriculum. Their belief is that by delivering arts-focused Black history programmes, providing teacher training and campaigning through mobilising young people, we can facilitate social change.
