In March this year, Matthew Burrows tragically lost his life. Matthew was one of our most loved members, and not a day goes by when we don't think of him and miss him. We are aiming to raise as much money as possible to install and maintain a defibrillator at our Cricket Club, as well as ensuring funding and resources for our Junior Section - a part of the Club that was very, very important to Matthew (and one in which he gave up a huge amount of his time to pass on his knowledge and experience).
We also wish to make a donation to the British Heart Foundation in his memory.
In addition to this, in the same month, Haris Hussain was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Haris had recently been training with the Leicestershire CCC Academy, and a very promising cricket career had to be put on hold. After lots of hard work from his loving family and friends, Haris recently underwent a transplant and is now on the road to recovery. He still has a long journey in front of him, but I'm sure he will resume his career in the very near future.
We are hoping to raise money to make a donation to DKMS-UK, as they have played a vital part in giving Haris a second chance.
WHAT ARE WE DOING??
On Saturday October 12, many Wath CC Members and Friends will be taking on the 'Yorkshire Three Peaks'.
Consisting of Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent, the Three Peaks Walk presents a considerable challenge to all who attempt it - we expect to cover up to 20 miles (including the climbs) in around 12 hours!
On Sunday October 13, we will be holding a Family Fun Day at The Club. This will give the opportunity to our junior members and their families to participate in a choice of a number of shorter routes around Manvers Lake and the club itself.
In addition to this we will be hosting a number of fun events and games:
- Nearest the pin golf challenge
- Penalty shoot out competition.
- Dodgeball Knockout
- Pub Sports Contest
- Plus many more
Please give generously to support our chosen charities!!!
