Wow! Due to the MASSIVE success of our launch and kind backers so far we've reached our initial target of £15,000. Thank you so much!

If we can reach £25,000 we can take it even further. Reaching our stretch target will mean:

  • We can double the capacity of our studio.
  • Get extra cutting and sewing machinery.
  • Take on an extra staff member (paying the real living wage).
  • Upcycle, repurpose, reuse, and reclaim more materials.
  • Reduce as many offcuts and waste as possible.
  • Fulfil our orders and blankets sooner!

We're already so humbled by everyone's generosity. With your further support, we can keep reducing clothing waste, further support UK manufacturing and the local economy!

About Too Many T-Shirts

Too Many T-Shirts create handmade Adult T-Shirt Blankets and Children’s Memory Blankets here in Bristol, UK.

You wouldn’t bury your old clothes in a hole in the ground, however, one million tonnes of clothing in the UK are disposed of each year. A third of that or £150M worth of wearable clothing goes directly to a landfill. Of the clothes that you donate, 70% are shipped overseas. Old and ill-fitting clothes undermine the local and traditional clothing markets of these developing countries. We can’t continue just to pass on our problem or put it in a landfill.

The Story so far

Too Many T-Shirts is the UK’s only custom t-shirt blanket company. We’ve been trading for just over a year, and in that short time, we’ve had hundreds of happy customers (see our all 5* Facebook reviews!). We’re committed to reducing clothing waste and offering something the customer truly loves (which they do)!

The Current Problem

To expand we need a suitable working space. Right now we don’t have enough space for more than one person (me, Simon) to work. A more substantial space will enable us to stock more materials (reducing our offcuts), keep any rags for repurposing and reclaiming, and get professional equipment helping us improve our efficiency and even further improve the manufacturing quality.

A more substantial space will also allow us to work with Bristol-based charity The Matthew Tree Project. The charity supports people in the Bristol area who have fallen into crisis. We’ll be able to run skills exchanges with their beneficiaries, giving them an introduction to textiles manufacturing, work experience and possible employment in the future.

You can help us keep our manufacturing in the UK, take on staff, pay the real living wage, and support the local economy!

How can I help?

Your donation will contribute towards an appropriate studio space, professional equipment and you’ll be responsible for supporting clients of The Matthew Tree Project gain skills and work experience.

Our range of rewards means that you can also pledge and in return receive a beautiful children’s memory blanket, t-shirt blanket, or gift box to give to someone you love.

How does it work?

Your old t-shirts can now find a new home! We will make you any sized children’s memory blanket or adult t-shirt blanket for a double bed!

We create memory blankets in a variety of sizes, using a varied number of t-shirts or baby/children's clothes. Don't worry if you don't have enough, we can use the backs of your t-shirts or offcuts to further reduce waste and make up the size you want. Choose the reward that best suits you. But hurry, before they’re all gone!

How are we going to spend the money?

Our waste! What we do next

Your donation to this campaign will enable us to buy our material by the roll, further reducing our offcuts. A suitable studio space will mean we can store any offcuts and rags, that can be further repurposed, given to local textile scrap charities, and the last remaining rags reclaimed as renewable electricity to be used here in the South West.

Making your custom t-shirt blanket isn’t difficult. But here are the answers to some questions you may have! For any unanswered questions visit our website's FAQ, or ask us a question.

What items can I send?

Cotton, poly, technical t-shirts. Polos, rugby and football top, shirts, a few hoodies or sweatshirts, baby clothes and grows are all fine.

How much is postage?

All UK postage is free!

Is it easy to send you my t-shirts?

Yes, we send you a postage kit with a prepaid addressed envelope to return your t-shirts to us. All you need to do is follow our instructions and drop of your t-shirt at one of the 6000 Collect + stores.

Can I choose where my t-shirts go on the blanket?

Yes, you can choose everything, the size, colour and where your t-shirts go. Just use the labels we provide and design your blanket!

Can you use the logo on the back of my t-shirt(s)?

Yes, we can use both the front and the back of any t-shirt. For the children's blankets, you will also receive a template to measure how many panels your garments have, and how many can be included.

Can I indicate the most important part of the t-shirt to be included?

Yes, you can use the labels to indicate the most important part of your t-shirt. We use this as a guide to what to include. We always try to include as much of the design on any t-shirt as possible.

How big are the panels/squares?

Children's Memory Blankets = 15 x 15cm

Adult T-Shirt Blankets = 30 x 30cm

What's the difference between the children's and adult's size blankets?

The main difference is the size of the panels. The children's memory blankets have smaller squares and are more suited to baby to teenager sized clothes.

Where are the blankets made?

We support UK manufacturing so the backing comes from UK suppliers, and the blankets are hand-made in Bristol.
