Donations received via this appeal will be split equally between the PRS Emergency Relief Fund and the Musicians’ Union Coronavirus Hardship Fund.
Every kind of music creator in need will be supported through these two funds which were set up to provide hardship grants during the COVID-19 crisis. Many musicians, songwriters and composers have seen their work opportunities and income disappear as the live sector and media productions remain closed. Some are now living on the breadline and unable to pay their bills.
Tim Burgess started his Twitter listening parties 9 years ago but until the lockdown, he would celebrate anniversaries of Charlatans records or his solo albums. At the start of the lockdown, he invited other bands and artists to join in - they have done 120 in the last four weeks with guests including Franz Ferdinand, Blur, Roisin Murphy and The Breeders. The #BrokenRecord hashtag has appeared to highlight the low royalties many artists, writers and musicians receive from streaming. The campaign is gathering momentum. Please use the hashtag to draw attention to the problem. Fan or musician, a sustainable music industry is in all our interests. We need to #FixStreaming.
If you’re enjoying Tim’s listening parties on Twitter using the #timstwitterlisteningparty hashtag, or following the #BrokenRecord campaign, please consider making a donation here.
