The COVID recovery has begun.

Almost 3 years ago i set about opening a Board game Cafe in the heart of Huddersfield. The time was right, the preperation complete and everything was set for a bright and prosperous boardgame cafe future..... and then the world stopped and life was changed in ways the best business planner could not have accounted for. So the Huddersfield site was forced to close  after nearly 2 years of fighting to get a foot hold as a new business and a new plan had to be formed.

Finally the seed of that plan is bearing fruit and here we are again opening a site in Wakefield. All the same great offers, deals, food, drink and many many games to play but in a smaller more sustainable venue.

So what brings us to Crowdfunder? Well I have had long love of boardgames and a long running desire to run my own cafe. For many years I have planned and toiled over what would make a great cafe and although I had all the nuts and bolts of how to do it I never had that special wow factor that woud make it stand out from the crowd.

Then I visited a few board game cafes around the UK and i was thoroughly inspired that my love of Board Games and my love of meeting people and making events and evenings for people to remember could be combined. It was then that the project of The People's Meeple truely began.

WHAT IS A BOARDGAME CAFE?

The high street is changing as portions of shopping moves online there is a surge in people wanting to visit the high street for expriences to remember. There is a upsurge in venues that offer the visitor something different that can bring friends and family together and also help introduce like minded people to each other.

A Board Game Cafe is a place where people can come together and put the digital world aside for a few hours and enjoy the company of their friends and family while enjoying the joys of Board Games. This could include the classics from your childhood, introducing friends to new games or exploring the world of modern boardgaming which has exploded over the past 12 years.

While you are there you can enjoy a wide selection of great food and drink as you take control of a Starship, fight mythical beasts, run a crime ring, become a pirate or balance blocks of wood into a large tower. There is a world of fun, problem solving and light hearted rivalry to be had within the Board Gaming Universe.

WHO I AM?

I'm Ric I have over 20 years experience in Managament with 15 of those years being in the front line of hospitaility management making it all run smoothly by building a great team and a great atmosphere with great service.

WHY CROWDFUNDING I HEAR YOU ASK?

The idea behind this crowd funding page it to put the icing on the cake of The People's Meeple Board Game Cafe.

All working parts for thr cafe have been costed and accounted for this drive is for the extra's. The bits that you want as customer and I want to be able to offer from an even bigger library of games to choose from to being able to offer alcoholic drinks on tap alongside our other offerings to much much more.

WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO BE?

We are going to be located in the heart of Wakefield City Centre at the top of Westgate. This is located near The Supper club, The Counting House, The Black swan and many more great entertainment venues.

With our city centre location we are only a 5 minute walk from the Train and Bus Stations. There is plenty of parking with a multistorey car park a minutes walk away.

WHAT WILL YOU BE OFFERING?

We will be offering a lot more than just a great selection of Board Games. There will be a freshly prepared menu which will include handmade pizzas, toased sandwiches, salads, sharing platters, burgers, desserts and a wide selection of cakes and treats to pick from. Included in the menu is a wide selection of Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten Free options.

Along side the Great Food and Great Games will be GREAT DRINKS. We will be fully licenced so can offer you a wide selection of your favourite drinks. There will also be freshly prepared coffee and specailist teas, milkshakes, smoothies and soft drink galor. 

WHAT DOES IT COST?

If you just want to enjoy our great food and drink then there is no extra charge other than the price for the lovely food and drink. There however a cost to be able to get access to the hunderds of games that we will have available. The cost will get you 4 hours access to the games library to play as you will and our friendly staff can help you choose a game should you not know what kind of game you are in the mood for.

Being a Member comes with its benifits and the main one is free access to the library during off peak times and half price table fees during peak times. Below are details of the prices.

What we are striving to be is not only a great place to eat drink and play some awesome boardgames but to also be much more than that. We at The People's Meeple believe strongly that progress is only found through innovation,  collaboration and community and we aim to bring this ethos into all aspects of the business. This will include the local suppliers we will use for the majority of the food a drink we serve, the other businesses that we partner with and the wider network of groups, assocciations and clubs that we can work with to highlight the benifts of social and communal activites such as board gaming. 

The target isnt large but its still a target to help us open with a bang and be all the things we want it to be.
