The Clubhouse, Drumpellier

Aim

Raising funds to regenerate a community based sports facility. Non profit, independently owed land and buildings.

Drumpellier Cricket Club and Waysiders Drumpellier Rugby Club, 

2018 is the anniversary of the amalgamation of Waysiders Rugby Club based in Airdrie and Drumpellier Rugby Club in Coatbridge, becoming Waysiders Drumpellier RFC in 1993.

A capital grant application is currently being applied for to pScottish Rugby Union (£50k) and Sports Scotland (£58k) to build a modern changing facility extension. This, in addition to a bar renovation in 2015 following a £2k investment from Scottish Rugby helped bring the facility up to a reasonable standard. That said, the fabric of the building was last upgraded in 1972 when the function hall was added. 

There have been a series of patch jobs done since, however little of note until the bar refurbishment. The club is in a fantastic setting however lacks the aesthetics and infrastructure required for a modern day sports and recreation facility. Continually torn on where to spend the little cash that is generated leaves many projects to fall by the wayside. No pun intended.

Therefore the proposal, should the SRU / Sports Scotland funding application be successful, would be, in addition to proceeding with the changing facility; to renovate and remodel the entire existing operation. The aim, to make it more accessible, improve the operating times to encompass a wider community catchment. The faculty sits in the cachement of the highest SIMD in Scotland. The proposal is that the project would deliver an exceptional community facility that supports the recruitment and retention of children in sport.
