Help the Bristol Revunions subsidise our members in paying for travel and accommodation for the Edinburgh Fringe this year!
The Bristol Revunions are thrilled to be returning to the Edinburgh Fringe this year, but we need your help to get there! In 2019, we’re taking up two shows: ‘Party’, a celebration of the Revunions’ 11th trip to the Fringe where all 6 cast-members are out for sabotage, and ‘Road Trip’, our 4-person free show with a new cast and set of fresh sketches each week.
The fringe is notoriously costly and with 22 members of cast and crew to account for, this is our biggest (and most expensive!) Edinburgh yet. Providing our members with the opportunity to take part in the fringe is one of the highlights of our year and something we pride ourselves on being able to offer. Our commitment to this is part of what makes this group so special, but it is a huge expense on such a small and still fairly new society and this financial strain falls on The Revunions as well as our individual members.
Throughout the year, we try to keep membership and show costs down so that financial barriers are not a factor in being able to take part in and enjoy sketch comedy. However, this does mean that our income is fairly low, and so your support is really needed to ensure that our inclusive ethos is also reflected in us going to Edinburgh and making the Fringe as widely accessible as possible.
The Revunions runs weekly workshops which are free for anyone to attend. This open, creative space is so important to what we do as a society. As well as our weekly performing and writing workshops, we run gender, race, and class workshops in an effort to make the space as warm and respectful as possible. We have also worked with the wider Bristol community by setting up a comedy club at a local school, to try and use comedy and drama games to build young peoples’ confidence. All of this lead to us winning the SU Award for ‘Best Performing Arts Society of the Year’, which we were very proud to be awarded this June.
On top of our workshops, we provide our members with an array of performance opportunities throughout the year. These range from our main sketch shows, non- auditioned monthly scratch nights, where we can test out new material, and stand-up nights that provide a welcoming and inclusive platform for many people to try stand-up for the first time.
Our society and the shows that we create are all centred around our amazing members. Many of the people coming to Fringe have only started Revs this year, and are already at the level where they are able to perform, write and produce their own shows. We are so lucky to have such a brilliant and committed group of people to take up to Edinburgh, and it would be amazing to be able to support them as much as possible with the help of your donations.
It would absolutely mean the world to us if you would be at all able to donate money towards taking these shows to the Fringe. This money will go towards subsidising participant’s accommodation (which has seen one of the sharpest spikes in pricing this year with landlords exploiting the fringe like never before) as well as more generally ensuring that we’re able to keep offering these opportunities to our members for years to come.
Of course (and as extra incentive!) you can also receive a variety of rewards for your donations on top of our eternal gratitude.
Many thanks!
