To improve the support that we're able to offer to a particularly vulnerable part of society - the homeless and rough sleepers.
Over the last year, we've seen numbers at our 'rough sleepers' breakfast double and now we provide breakfast, hot showers and a change of clothes for 45-50 people. Whilst food helps and these people get a good start to the day, it’s all about breaking down the barriers, getting our guests to work with us, to help them back into mainstream society. With the increase in numbers, we need to employ a new member of staff to work directly with this vulnerable group and give them the vital support that they need.
We are based in a very deprived area of the city of Leicester which has 22% (and rising) of its population living in income deprived households. Our guests are amongst the most marginalised people in the city and often have multiple and complex needs, in addition to, or as a direct result of homelessness. Many will have been excluded from mainstream services or do not access them because they feel stigmatised. That’s why we have to work with them in our centre to get them to engage again.
