Help N London's quirkiest festival celebrate women & create new work where classical, jazz, folk, early music & theatre collide

Stroud Green Festival 2019 will celebrate women and is set to be one of North London's gems this summer.

Running from 7-23 June, with 20 events & free pop-up performances, the line-up includes internationally renowned artists such as The Dante Quartet, The Lovekyn Consort, Vox Animae, jazz stars Tina May & David Gordon & the next generation of classical music stars.

We help artists create exciting new work where classical, early music, jazz, folk combines with music with theatre, poetry and art.

It’s going to be bigger and better than ever and we’re quickly becoming North London's quirkiest music festival, where:

  • early music meets theatre: spend the evening with Hildegard of Bingen, woman troubadour Beatriz de Dia, Beethoven and the creator of Carmen, Prosper Mérimée
  • fantastic folk & jubilant jazz
  • Flamenco meets world & ear;ly music
  • music collides with art, photography and poetry
  • 3-7 year olds open their eyes to the world of early music with fabulous fairy-tale words and music

Highlights include:

  • Unique local family female trio Davies and Daughters perform close harmony folk songs about women
  • The Telling presents the secret love of medieval singer-songwriter Beatriz de Dia in a blend of history and fiction
  • The Dante Quartet returns with actor David Timson as Beethoven to guide you through his Late Quartets and life stories
  • Jazz superstar Tina May joins pianist David Gordon for vocal hi-jinks
  • Family event: Writer/narrator/cellist Jonathan Rees presents fabulous fairy-tale words and music for 3-7 year olds
  • The earliest “opera” by a woman: Hildegard of Bingen’s music/drama Ordo Virtutum performed by Vox Animae with Michael Fields (harp/director) with soloists including Evelyn Tubb
  • New concert/play about the colourful writer Prosper Merimee creator of the character Carmen with arrangements of music from Bizet’s opera with Emily Andrews mezzo/flute & Francisco Correa & David Massey guitars
  • and lots more!

But to make it all happen, we need YOUR help!

Even though we are run by volunteers, the festival will cost us £16,000 to put on - but we can only expect about £6500 in ticket income – and we want some events to be free. We've raised most of the remaining funds from generous trusts and foundations and local businesses but to make it all happen, we need to raise a further £2000. Please dig deep and help make the festival continue beyond this year.
