Street & District Swimming Club's Covid Appeal

Aim

We are raising funds to keep our club alive through this crisis and to help us get all our swimmers back in the pool safely.

Who are we?

Street and District swimming club are a friendly and inclusive club based in Somerset. We have been part of the community since 1976 and have taught hundreds of local children to swim.... some of our coaches even swam with the club when it first started! Currently we have approximately 130 members ranging from 6 years old to adults. Our aim is to develop swimmers confidence and skills in the water, regardless of their ability. Our club offers children the opportunity to learn commitment and dedication, and to keep fit and active in a safe environment. We are a well known and valued part of the local community and hope to continue to provide swimming opportunities for local children for may years to come!

Why are we raising funds?

This fund is designed to help Street & District Swimming Club get back to swimming as safely as possible when the government and Swim England deem it safe to do so. 

Since March our swimmers have been unable to train due to the Covid-19 crisis. For our young people who train with their friends up to 6 days per week this has been a truly difficult time.

We are keen to get our 130 swimmers back to doing what they love as soon as possible, but we know that our operating costs will be increased when we return with social distancing measures in place. We are a parent run club and simply don't have the financial reserves needed to see us through a crisis of this duration. We had to cancel our meet in April, losing £6000 of expected income, and all of our usual fundraising activities that keep our club afloat have been curtailed by the ongoing crisis.

Our club has been helping children learn to swim and compete since 1976 and we need your help so we can keep doing this for many more years!

How will we use the money raised?

We anticipate the money raised being used to support the club with increased pool costs during a club rebuilding phase, to retain the services of our coaches, and to support members who are experiencing financial difficulties. It's really important to us that, as a local club, all our members are supported to keep swimming, and in doing so retain their friendship bonds with squadmates, through these difficult times.

Our swimmers' safety is our top priority and we are commited to following all guidance laid down by the government and by Swim England. Social distancing measures mean that we now need more pool-space and more pool-time to accomodate the number of swimmers we have - and that costs money! We have now restarted land-training sessions but, again, government guidance limits this to groups of 6 so we are having to run more sessions in order to keep all our swimmers active.

Partner funding can increase the total we raise!

We are applying for Sport England 'Active Together' matchfunding. If successful Sport England will add the monies raised to make our total even bigger! This will mean that any donations are worth more to us when donated through this Crowdfunder - so please do help us if you can!

We hope that the local community, ex-swimmers and sportspeople will all feel able to donate our cause and help us to keep our young people swimming!

Available rewards include family photo sessions with an award winning local photographer, and prize draw entries to win one of two fantastic hampers filled with food, drink, vouchers and other goodies. 

In addition, if you are a club member and donate at least the suggested amount for your squad, you'll be entered into a prize draw to win the following:

• Three months FREE training. One prize. Winner to be selected at random from all squads including pre-squad.
• A race suit or kit of your choice worth up to £200 from the TYR website. One prize. Winner to be selected at random from all squads including pre-squad. 
• A personalised club shirt. One winner will be selected from each squad including pre-squad.

Terms and Conditions for club members:

• The recommended amount for your squad is the equivalent of 50% of monthly of you usual training fees.
• All club swimmers are eligible for member prizes. 
• Only current and continuing members of Street and District Swimming Club are eligible to collect member prizes.
• No cash prize equivalent
• Prize cannot be used to claim reimbursement against past training fees
• All other club fees must continue to be paid for the period involved e.g. Annual membership.
• Winners will be drawn at random by September 15th 2020
