It’s no secret that sport brings people from all walks of life together and, over the years, we’ve helped clubs of all shapes and sizes raise money from the crowd. When the pandemic hit and matches were called off, clubs across the country were left facing an uncertain future. They had lost almost all of their income and had no idea when they could reopen to the public. 

One such club was Newquay AFC. During lockdown, they lost all of their matchday revenue, gate money and bar takings, leaving them scrambling to keep their 120 year old club afloat. 

They set up a crowdfunding campaign with an aim to raise £10,000 to plug their predicted shortfall in funding. The money would also be used to update the facilities to be COVID secure to keep both players and fans safe when they could finally come back. 

Needless to say the fans were with them every step away. You see, for many, football is more than just a game, it’s a community, an experience and a place to blow off steam. The crowd helped raise £10,321, including £4,250 from our extra funding partners. £4,000 came from Sport England’s Active Together Fund and £250 came from Cornwall Council’s Community Chest Fund. 

With our HQ based in Newquay and a team brimming with football fans, we knew we had to include this incredible club in our first TV advert.
