Mend Our Mountains is a national BMC campaign to repair heavily eroded paths and trails in the UK’s family of fifteen National Parks.
The BMC has launched 13 projects across the country aiming to raise a total of £150,000 to rebuild and conserve areas blighted by over-use, so these beautiful natural landscapes can be enjoyed by everyone for generations to come.
With ever-increasing numbers of people loving the outdoors, National Parks are a victim of their own success – booming visitor numbers mean more boots on paths, while tighter budgets in many places have limited capacity to keep up repairs. Even as they rise up the political agenda, with possible new parks on the horizon, the UK’s National Parks are struggling.
Dave Turnbull, British Mountaineering Council CEO, said: “Mend Our Mountains is the BMC’s flagship initiative, our way of giving back to the mountains we love and use.
More people out in the hills can only be a good thing – in fact, those regularly taking part in walking, climbing and mountaineering now outnumber those doing golf, tennis and rugby combined – but we do have a duty of care to these landscapes.
That’s why I’m extremely proud that we’re supporting National Parks from Scotland to Sussex as they try to overcome the challenges they all face.”
Max Upton, Crowdfunder Campaigns Executive, said: “We’re delighted to be working with the BMC on the Mend Our Mountains campaign. It’s initiatives like this that really define what Crowdfunder is all about.
We hope the campaign will empower people from all across the UK to gather together to raise the money required to sustain and enjoy these amazing locations for years to come.
The campaign runs until October 21st and rewards range from t-shirts to helicopter rides!
