Launching our Crowdfunder | Diaries of a crowdfunder

Our Crowdfunder is LIVE!
This is a huge milestone to reach for any project, knowing you’ve overcome hurdles, learnt new skills and put previously dormant ones to work.
For me, getting our +Extra Funding application sent off was the hardest thing, purely because I have never done anything like it before. With the expertise of Chloe and Phil, and leaning on my fellow 2nd Hand Sunday directors, I soon found my groove and found it quite straightforward.
Writing my project page and creating the video were my favourite parts of the process so far. The creative element allowed me to use my previous experience in journalism and television which felt rewarding.
I’m fully aware that our Crowdfunder journey has only just begun and there is still lots to do, but knowing that a huge chunk of it is done, is a relief.
Going live…
So we officially launched our Crowdfunder on the same day as our shop opening. We decided to do this to build momentum and increase the noise.
In our weekly director meetings, we discussed ways to increase pledges and decided that, instead of taking payments for purchases through our card machine we would encourage people to pledge to our Crowdfunder for the same amount.
This was hugely successful and meant that after our launch day, we had added a further £700 to our Crowdfunder, taking it from £500 to £1200.
With our project being live for six weeks, we will continue to take this approach and hopefully reach our target.
