We are delighted to be able to congratulate British Airways on being awarded the ‘Best Scheme to Encourage Staff Fundraising!’ award at the prestigious Better Society Awards. The ceremony took place last week, recognising outstanding contributions to social responsibility and charitable efforts.
For more than 30 years British Airways have supported their colleagues and customers in charitable giving in the communities they serve. Now, with BA Better World Community Fund, the airline is creating more life-changing opportunities to further support organisations and projects that have a positive impact in communities within the UK, enabling them to support projects that deliver benefits for climate, nature, communities and colleagues.
In times of crisis internationally and in the UK, British Airways works with partners, including the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and the British Red Cross, to ensure that vital relief gets to where it’s needed as quickly as possible, helping to save lives and rebuild communities.
British Airways also has a flagship charity programme called Flying Start, a global partnership with Comic Relief launched in 2010, which focuses on helping underprivileged young people have a better start in life. During flights we encourage customers to donate any spare currency they may have and since the start of the partnership we have raised more than £28 million, helping more than 1 million people. Alongside customer donations, our colleagues raise hundreds of thousands of pounds every year.
British Airways uses Crowdfunder Connect’s Employee Fundraising technology on the BA Community Fund website to bring colleagues together, creating a sense of collaboration and inspiration in their fundraising efforts. In addition, British Airways matches donations using Crowdfunder’s live matching technology so supporters see their donations double in real time, making fundraising more rewarding for their colleagues.
Judges were impressed not only by the amount raised but by the engagement and fun colleagues had with the campaign. From donning red noses and pushing trollies around London as part of the Comic Relief trolly dash to touch rugby, sky diving and dancing the night away in British Airways’ very own ‘BA does Strictly’ show.
Mary Brew, Head of Community Investment and Responsible Business at British Airways, stated. “I am unbelievably proud of all our colleagues across British Airways who have helped us support charities and raise vital funds to help communities both in the UK and around the world.”
Graeme Roy, Head of Crowdfunder Connect, expressed his delight at the recognition received by British Airways, stating, “It’s always brilliant working with the British Airways team and so nice for their efforts to be recognised. This acknowledgment highlights the significance of British Airways’ team fundraising initiatives and the positive influence it has on society.”
Dawn Bebe, Co-CEO of Crowdfunder said: “Crowdfunder is the only platform which unites the crowd with projects and brands that want to support making their ideas happen. Increasingly we’ve been working with partners that want to engage their people through our Crowdfunder Connect programme and have a positive impact on their community. It’s amazing to see British Airways recognised for pioneering this work with us. Huge congrats to them!’
We are proud to be associated with British Airways and their remarkable achievement at the Better Society Awards. As a leading crowdfunding platform, we are committed to supporting initiatives that create positive social impact and empower individuals and communities to thrive.
And it wasn’t just British Airways that had success – Crowdfunder Connect partners, Aviva, were also shortlisted for their commitment to community through the Aviva Community Fund programme
