Crowdfunder are delighted to welcome Devon County, West and Teignbridge District Councils, Exeter City Council and Devon & Cornwall Police to the platform in a collaboration that will help to build opportunities for community groups and help local projects to get off the ground.
Set up to support community groups, start-up businesses, charities and individuals across the county to raise money from the crowd, Crowdfund Devon will offer the opportunity for eligible projects to unlock extra funding from the panel of partners on top of what is raised from the crowd.
Councillor Roger Croad, Devon County Council’s Communities Cabinet Member, said, “We already do a lot to financially support local projects and local groups, to help pay for equipment, improvements, and to help get local projects off the ground. Those groups also usually need to raise finance from other sources to support their ideas. By bringing these applications for funding into the one platform, Crowdfund Devon will be the place where projects can be brought to the public’s attention in order to attract donations, and the authorities with discretionary community budgets can also choose to support bids with match-funding.”
Whilst Devon’s councils already give thousands of pounds each year to support community groups and to support local projects that make a positive difference for residents, Crowdfund Devon will allow the partners to explore crowdfunding as an alternative way to support these communities and see if bringing together their funds with those of the crowd and other funders will make a greater impact.
Dawn Bebe, Director at Crowdfunder, said, “We’re delighted to be working with our Devon partners to launch Crowdfund Devon. More than 320 projects in Devon have already raised over £1.5million on Crowdfunder so far, but now, with the ability to attract additional pledges from partners in Devon and potentially double the funds raised, we hope as many projects as possible will consider crowdfunding as the way that they can make their idea happen.”
The key aim of the scheme is to make the things that matter locally a reality for more communities.
