Domestic violence rate in Turkey has increased 38% and more than 80 women have died since March! Please help me to stop domestic violence!
Domestic violence is and has always been a worldwide problem. As countries around the world try to take precaution to slow the spread of COVID-19 with stay at home orders, lockdowns and quarantines, women with abusive partners and family members face a greater danger of domestic abuse. The increase in Turkey alone was 38.2% just after a month of the lockdown measures taking place.
The United Nations secretary-general also stressed the global surge in domestic violence and urged world leaders to include protective measures in their pandemic plans. However, according to new statistics and the steep increase of new incidents, the situation is deteriorating by the minute. This has to stop!
Do not forget; domestic violence, if not prevented will turn into murder!
In March, 29 women have been murdered. In April; 20, in May; 21 and in the first week of June; 10!
So please help us, to make our voices heard, to spread awareness, to help victims and to STOP domestic violence in Turkey!
The funds raised will be matched by EBRD ( European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) and donated to Mor Çatı Kadın Sığınağı Vakfı: A well-established charity in Turkey that fights against domestic violence. With the raised funds, they will extend the number of shelters in Turkey in order to provide a safer environment for women and their children, cover legal and physiological support expenses, cover abortion expenses, sustain daily needs in the shelters such as food, sanitary items, hygiene products, medications and last but not least to buy laptops for the children in the shelters for them to continue their online education.
