Shaftesbury High Street Christmas Tree fund

by Shaftesbury & District Chamber of Commerce in Shaftesbury, England, United Kingdom

New stretch target

In spite of this year’s challenges, Shaftesbury’s historic town centre has still been decorated with fresh Christmas trees above the shops and strings of lights across the High Street.  Normally, the town centre businesses cover the costs of all the trees and the lights,  but this year, as many of those businesses have only just emerged from a second period of forced closure the Shaftesbury Chamber of Commerce is asking the public if they would like to chip in to help pay for them, and ease the pressure on the hard pressed shop keepers.

The whole town loves the Christmas trees all lit up with fairy lights so we hope that residents will be happy to contribute to the cost; whilst Chamber members put up the trees and the lights for free, the trees have to be bought and faulty lights replaced.  The Chamber has earned virtually no money this year, as the Christmas market had to be cancelled and it was decided to halve the annual subscription, so we would all be really grateful for any help to cover these costs.
