In 2018 we finally managed to generate enough surplus funds to invest in a community beyond the borders of British society, extending our impact as a registered social enterprise and Community Interest Company (CIC) to West Africa. Our first overseas project saw us on a trip to The Gambia, where we visited Jolly Friends Nursery and Immaculate St. Mary’s School to deliver empowering messages, games, equipment, and gifts.
Schools in The Gambia are severely underfunded with no utilities for clean running water – that's right, the quintessential element for life on Earth. Our goal is to raise funds for Sports For Champions UK (CIC) to return and install wind turbines near our friends in The Gambia, to provide them with a reliable source of energy while non-profits and other NGOs explore and implement solutions for a sustainable water supply. We'd also like to build a kitchen in each school to enable the schools with the ability to provide food for students that go without along with clean, running water taps.
“I want it to be completely different to other fundraisers, I don’t want to do this for recognition or support... I’d like this to be completely transparent, I’d like to lay out all the receipts out and show everyone exactly where their money is going”- Darren Emmanuel, Managing Director at Sports For Champions.
