Lambeth GP Food Co-op has contributed to improving the health and well-being of Lambeth residents since 2013. Through building vegetable growing gardens at GP surgeries across the Borough, we have had an active part in reducing social isolation amongst our most vulnerable residents. However, due to the current global pandemic we are concerned for the health and well-being of the community we support. Therefore, we aim to provide some relief to those in isolation by the small yet effective act of enabling people to grow food.
(Please go to http://lambeth.gpfoodcoop.org.uk/ for information about our work).
We will help deliver the Seeds for Life project which at it's heart is a Seeds for Life gardening kit, containing a free packet of seeds, a simple recipe, growing instructions and helpful hints. We are mobilising to deliver these kits to as many of the 4-6,000 vulnerable people in the Borough.
During the lockdown, many older Lambeth residents managing long term health conditions including diabetes, arthritis, heart conditions and low mood could benefit from becoming actively involved in growing plants at home.
This project contributes to supporting personal and community resilience, enhancing self-care and raising older peoples ability to self manage in challenging circumstances.
