Scordatura Collective has three main aims: to perform the music of women of the past and present; to inspire women and girls to compose by offering an alternative model of who a composer can be; and to support current composers by commissioning and performing their work. Since we launched as an ensemble in 2017 we have commissioned new music from three exciting young female composers. Rather than playing each piece only once at the premiere, we commit to working alongside each composer to perform their music on a more frequent basis and ensure several repeat performances of their work. In order to allow us to continue to offer this support and fairly compensate our composers we are launching a commissioning fund which will be used solely for the creation of new music.
The first project that we are seeking to fund is a duo for clarinet and viola from Rhiannon Randle. The 'Prelude, Allegro and Pastorale' by Rebecca Clarke is one of our favourite pieces to perform, and Randle is writing us a companion piece to be programmed alongside the Clarke in concerts in October and November. More information about Rhiannon is available on her website: http://rhiannonrandle.com/index.html Any funding that we receive beyond this will be used towards future commissions and working with more talented female composers.
