Save Meadow and Horse Fields in Iffley Village

Aim

To allow Friends of the Fields Iffley to hire professionals to prevent Oxford Council from building over our ancient meadows.

The Friends of the Fields have built an impressive amount of public support to protest about the Oxford City Council's plans to concrete over the Horse Fields in Iffley Village, with more than 50,000 people signing our petition. 

The council purchased this land (and the neighbouring Memorial Fields) for GBP4.5 million without notifying the village, or giving others the chance to counterbid (and so protect these precious green spaces). The council's attempts at consultation since then have been pathetic, full of delays and inconsistencies.

We want to prevent this climate-destroying initiative from taking place. We feel our best chance of doing that is to hire experienced lawyers, planning consultancies and environmentalists who can hopefully make a series of well thought out objections to the Council's plans. We need to hire professionals who have "won" before.

Our goal from this initial fundraise is to accumulate sufficient money to convince serious professionals that we can pay for their work.  Please note that if the target is not reached then your contribution will be refunded. We may need to raise more in the future and if so, that will be clearly communicated.

The allocation of expenditure will be decided by the Action Committee of the Friends of the Fields and declared openly to all members of the group via regular (at least quarterly) written updates. In the event that not all the money is spent on professional fees, then the Action Committee will spend the rest on other actions to enhance and protect our ancient meadows.

This is not a political group, nor is it a registered charity. It is a single-issue-focused campaign run by individuals who are well-known in Iffley.
