Many of you will have seen the auction signs on the fields by the River Beane near Hertford North station. The land is up for sale, and we have until 7th August to raise enough funds to purchase the land for the community and the wildlife that live in it. We want to ensure it remains in its natural state and is not developed. I walk past the fields every day on my journey to and from the station, and every time am grateful to live in such a beautiful spot. How amazing would it be if we could retain this land as it is? Anyone who lives near the field or simply enjoys the peace and calm it offers on their way to and from the station or around town - please help!
For full disclosure: this page has been set up by me, Hannah Cope (I go by my maiden name of Hannah Lilley on Facebook). If we do not hit the target all funds will be returned to whoever made the donation. If we do, at the moment the designated bank account into which donations will be paid is my own. The Beane Marshes Conservation Group (which includes John Howson - the chair of the Bengeo Area Neighbourhood Plan) have set up a company to manage our collective efforts on this, and ultimately that is where any funds from this site will be directed. However, we have not had long to mobilise on this, and setting up a company and a related bank account is unfortunately not an immediate act, hence why my account is named for now. I am actively talking to others involved in community action around these land plots. UPDATE: the bank account should be live on Monday 17th June!
