Many of you will have seen the auction signs on the fields by the River Beane near Hertford North station. The land is up for sale, and we have until 7th August to raise enough funds to purchase the land for the community and the wildlife that live in it (the auction was originally due to go ahead on 19th June; it has recently been extended until 7th August which gives us more time to raise funds!). We want to ensure it remains in its natural state and is not developed. I walk past the fields every day on my journey to and from the station, and every time am grateful to live in such a beautiful spot. How amazing would it be if we could retain this land as it is? Anyone who lives near the field or simply enjoys the peace and calm it offers on their way to and from the station or around town - please help!
UPDATE: For full disclosure: this page has been set up by me, Hannah Cope (I go by my maiden name of Hannah Lilley on Facebook). If we do not hit the target all funds will be returned to whoever made the donation. The Beane Marshes Conservation Group, which includes a number of local residents, have set up a company of the same name to manage our collective efforts on this, and that is where any funds from this site will be directed (once I connect this site to the bank account for that entity in the net day or two). This is the company that would buy land on our behalf. We would like this entity to be a charity, but that process takes times.
