Granny Ma's was founded in September of 2019, when it began trading Bubble Tea on the Cambridge Market.
The shop has gone from strength to strength since opening, securing seven May Ball events and gaining recognition from The Tab as the Best Bubble Tea in Cambridge.
Our aim is to provide eco-friendly, authentic Bubble Tea to Cambridge's residents, using loose leaf teas and large smiles to spread bubbly joy.
Unfortunately, trade was abruptly cut off as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. All seven May Balls were cancelled and the lucrative summer market trade is likely to be lost entirely. This will lead to a loss of trade in excess of £30,000.
While the UK Government is providing invaluable help to many small businesses across the country, Granny Ma's is regrettably ineligible. Under current rules, businesses must have been operating for a minimum of 1 year to qualify for support.
Granny Ma's is now facing a difficult financial situation, given its obligation to remunerate staff and service bills, despite the closure of the shop. And while rent freezes and loan repayment holidays have eased the burden, Granny Ma's will require extra help to ensure its doors can reopen once the current situation improves.
Through crowdfunding we hope to reduce this financial pressure by offering gift cards equivalent to the value of:
- £15 of Bubble Tea (£10 pledge)
- £15 of Bubble Tea + 1 ticket to re-opening party (£30 pledge)
Our aim is to raise £1000. This figure will allow us to clear outstanding market rental and staff wage payments, and eventual loan repayments accumulated during the payback freeze. Anything above this amount will entail the same right to gift cards for Bubble Tea, and will also result in Granny Ma's pledging an equal amount to fund the wages of Cambridge homeless workers within Granny Ma's.
Please help us #savegrannyma!
With love & bubbles,
The team at Granny Ma's.
