PRESS RELEASE 23rd April 2023

URGENT ACTION NEEDED

PROTECT THE WETLANDS OF BLACK JOHNSON.  LEAVE MARINE LIFE FREE

Breaking News

Wetlands, mangroves, flora and fauna destroyed.  Wild orcas, dolphins and manatees to be captured and trained for human entertainment.

Proposed by the Government of  Sierra Leone -  funded by the Government of the Republic of China.

HELP US TO STOP IT

LET THE GOVERNMENT OF SIERRA LEONE KNOW THIS CANNOT HAPPEN IN 2023.

THE PROPOSAL BACKED BY THE SIERRA LEONE GOVERNMENT.

“The fish harbour project is a class A project which will impact on the biodiversity of the ecosystems of Black Johnson by total removal of wetlands, mangrove catchments along the project site of the Black Johnson Lagoon and the removal of fauna and flora through reclamation of lands from the Whale Bay and the Lagoon areas.”

“We propose an Integrated Marine Park and Mariculture Station with a well-constructed aquariums (at least two) where social animals including orcas (Killer Whales), bottlenose dolphins and manatees can be trained in captivity to provide social functions. Dolphins are lovely animals and very intelligent and playful and charismatic. Cetaceans and can be trained in captivity to provide entertainment for people. Aquariums are lucrative business in China with well-developed expertise which could be transferred into Sierra Leone.”

SAY NO TO THIS sign our petition to protect the wetlands. Leave  our marine life wild and free.

“Wetlands are important for maintaining key ecological processes, for their rich flora and fauna and for the benefits they provide to local communities and to human society in general”.

Sierra Leone is a signatory to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.

The people on Black Johnson beach respect the marine animals who visit our bay.

LEAVE BLACK JOHNSON WETLANDS ALONE. LEAVE THE DOLPHINS, WHALES AND MANATEES FREE. SAVE BLACK JOHNSON BEACH.
