Summary:

A documentary that explores modern perceptions of traditional film (celluloid) in an attempt to raise awareness to this dying area of filmmaking, particularly in younger generations. We hope that through this documentary we will be able to reach out to and show them a part of history that they may not know even existed. Moreover, we want to share the passion that film has evoked for so long and most importantly protect the future of film, so it can continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.

We will be travelling to various parts of the UK, conducting interviews with old film and cinema enthusiasts to hear their stories and to showcase their collections. Amongst this, we will be exploring cinemas which still have all their original interior design, and still screen celluloid film to local audiences.

Inspiration:

The idea for the documentary was inspired when our crew was asked by David Guest (Event Organiser) to create a promotional video for the 2017 North West Film Fair in Blackpool. In our time there we chatted with and got to know some of the participants and attendees. In the process we discovered what film means to them and the great impact it has had on their lives. We noticed from the beginning that we were the youngest in attendance and soon couldn’t help but empathise with the common and sad conclusion that film collection and classic cinema is dying. 

In 2018 we went to the North West Film Fair in Farnsworth and used the opportunity to gather contacts. From there we got to work: contacting and organising interviews with cinema owners, businesses, collectors and fans alike.

So far we've traveled to...

- The Rex Cinema in Elland, to talk with Charles Morris about the collection of cinemas he has acquired over the years, and what originally peaked his interest in cinema from a young age. We were also given a tour of the cinema.

- Paul's home in Bingley, asking about his upbringing in cinema, whilst taking a look upon his varied collection of celluloid films and other collectibles.
