Target reached!

We will install more efficient systems in more places in the centre.

Aim

We aim to reduce our carbon footprint by funding a number of initiatives

We have over 600 people a week come through our doors, this is a very captive audience to educate them on green projects and the impact of sustainable energy.

We would like to raise funds to install the following below and become the first community centre in the country to be self sustainable and have a low carbon output.

  • Solar Panels
  • Electric vehicle chargers
  • Cycling hub
  • Heat source pumps
  • Voltage optimisation
  • Food growing garden
  • Eco friendly and recycling workshops for local children.

It is estimated that 17.2 % of adults in the Winchester District are obese, 58.8% are overweight or obese. The percentage of adults that achieved at least 150 minutes physical activity per week is 63.4%, compared to 56% nationally, which is positive but there is still room for improvement.

By creating a free bike hire and rental service( Boris Bikes) not only will help the physical health of Winchester, but will help the mental health as well. We have over 600 people a week from the community that use our centre, so even if we can help 25 percent of those people by putting on a community bike tour and bike event every month. It will make a massive difference.

The Winchester District is generally considered to be affluent but health inequalities exist in certain wards primarily St John & All Saints (Winnall & Highcliffe), St Luke (Stanmore) and St Barnabas (Weeke) We are based in Winnall.

Issues of child and adult obesity, smoking prevalence and teenage conceptions are generally worse in areas of identified deprivation.  The majority of residents experiencing health inequalities are social housing tenants or from marginalised communities e.g. gypsies and travellers, Nepalese. We will also partner with cycling proficiency instructors to teach local children how to be safe on the roads.
