Pontypridd Foodbank Emergency COVID-19 appeal

OUR STORY

We are a Trussell Trust foodbank that serves the local community in Pontypridd, South Wales. We were set up by local churches in 2011 Pontypridd to help those in the town who were experiencing food poverty.

Last year we served 2610 people and so far this year we have served over 3000 people. 

Since the beginning of this year, not only have we been seeing the rising numbers  seen all over the UK but Pontypridd was also heavily affected by the flooding on February 16th 2020 caused by storm Dennis. During this time we worked hard to distribute 2000kg of food in the form of emergency food packages to those in need. Some of these folk are still without white goods and some still not able to live in their houses. Some of the smaller local businesses are still reeling and some still haven't opened again still the floods.

We are still getting over the effect of this.

HOW THE COVID-19 CRISIS IS IMPACTING US. 

• We are seeing an increase in the number of people needing our help and expect that to increase as this next crisis deepens
• We have seen a reduction in donations, as people have changed their shopping habits.
• Many of our volunteers, an estimated 90% have had to self isolate due to underlying health conditions or age.
• The churches that are usually a great support, have been closed and so we cant rely on their help.
