Plymouth Art Weekender 2020 Seed Funding Virtual Event

THE EVENT HAS NOW TAKEN PLACE - DONATIONS ONLY FROM NOW ON

Congratulations to Art & Energy CIC and Genius Treasure Collection for winning the pitches. A huge thanks to our other pitchers Pollenize CIC and Plymouth Play CIC; Grace Lightman for a stunning performance and our amazing audience!

Friday 22nd of May on Zoom

Time: 7.30 pm for 8 o’clock start / Donations: £3 upwards

The annual Plymouth Art Weekender ‘Soup’ Micro Funding Event is back! But with a twist… We are taking it virtual!

How it works: if you want to be in the audience on the night you will need to make a pledge on Crowdfunder to receive the livestream link via Zoom. Your pledge includes a donation to the seedfunding pots, the opportunity to ask questions to the pitchers, some live music from Grace Lightman and, of course, a vote for which PAW projects get the cash!

We’ll be inviting four artists or artists groups to pitch their projects to the audience. Each pitch can last for up to four minutes. Audience members can then ask each presenter up to four questions after their presentation.

After the presentations, audience members can then vote for the two projects they would like to see funded. The two projects with the highest number of votes will each receive a guaranteed micro grant of £500 each, plus a quarter of the takings raised through your donations, to put towards running an event during this year's Plymouth Art Weekender. The remaining half of your donations will go to Grace Lightman for her performance on the night, thus supporting not only PAW artists but also the wider creative scene in Plymouth.

We’ve set a minimum advised amount, but please think about donating what you can to support these Plymouth based creatives during this difficult time.

Plymouth Art Weekender is an ambitious three-day event that will take place across the city from 25-27 September 2020. The Weekender celebrates Plymouth’s visual arts scene and promotes  the city as an exciting contemporary art destination with exhibitions, activities and commissions by local, national and international artists.

You can pledge to be in the audience up until 5pm on Friday the 22nd of May, past this time, you will still be able to donate if you would like to do so, but we won’t be able to send you a link to attend. Likewise, if you’d like to contribute but are unable to attend the event, there’s a ‘donate only’ option on the Crowdfunder.

Please note that applications to pitch are now closed and if you have any other questions regarding the event you can reach the Weekender team on email at info@plymouthartweekender.com

Grace Lightman is a Plymouth-based solo artist, hailing from London following the release of her debut solo album 'Silver Eater' released in July of 2019. Lightman explores the ideas of humanity and alienation throughout this concept album via her alias, the Silver Eater; and alien who has arrived on Planet Earth and has fallen in love with the human race. 'Silver Eater' was written and produced across London, Plymouth and Newton Abbott - giving Lightman a longing to spend more time in the South West where her alias was created. She moved to Plymouth in August 2019, and has immersed herself in the buzzing music and creative scene here.

'Silver Eater' is available to buy on 12inch vinyl, CD and can be streamed on all major streaming platforms. Click here for links: http://www.gracelightman.com/

So, who's pitching?!

Genius Treasure Collection by Huhtamaki Wab
The Genius Treasure Collection is made up of roughly 300 artworks by mostly anonymous makers found predominantly in car boots and markets. It includes various scale sculpture, painting, drawings and other objects. The collection was opened up as a museum in the collectors bedroom in Southwark, London, between 2018 and 2019. Huhtamaki’s plan is to bring the Genius Treasure Collection to Devon for PAW2020. www.geniustreasure.co.uk | @geniustreasurecollection

Plymouth Play Scrapstore CIC
The 'Home of Playful Creativity' is run by trustees, a staff team and a team of incredible volunteers, where stuff destined for bins is collected to give it a chance for another adventure. The donations of 'scrap' come from factories, industry and business as well as craft cupboards that need a makeover! They check it over and then make the 'loveliness' available for others to select and become part of their creative, playful journey.

Pollenize CIC
Pollenize Community Interest Company is a pollinator conservation project utilising the power of community beekeeping, product design, citizen science, IoT sensors, big data and environmental DNA techniques to combat pollinator decline. Pollenize are pitching to run a (socially distanced) flash mob at PAW 2020. www.pollenize.org.uk | @pollenizeplymouth

Art & Energy CIC
Art & Energy CIC stimulate conversation about energy use and the climate through creativity and hands-on experience. Our project Moths to a Flame will engage with thousands of people through an installation of UV moths, a book, an augmented reality colouring sheet, a digital artwork and soundscape. The seedfunding will enable us to share our project at PAW, including running a makers table for visitors to decorate UV paper moths to add to the installation, experience the AR colouring sheet, and record their audio hope for the future. We will take these up to Glasgow to coincide with the UN climate conference COP26, taking the voice of the South West to world leaders! www.artandenergy.org

We ask project owners to honour their rewards wherever possible but please note that all pledges are donations and there is no guarantee that you will receive any rewards from the project owner. Please see Crowdfunder's Terms of Use for more information regarding rewards for pledges.
