Who we are:
Merton Community Transport (MCT) is a local charity that provides innovative, flexible, safe, cost-effective, and accessible transport solutions to affiliated organisations and individuals in Merton and surrounding districts.
What we do:
Founded in 1998, our charity, with its fleet of accessible minibuses and MPVs, is dedicated to providing transport to those who are unable to use public transport. MCT can provide a fully trained (MiDAS) and DBS checked driver and PATS trained passenger assistant to carry passengers, friends, carers and escorts from door to door. By providing these services MCT helps to achieve social change in our community as it's a great way for individuals to get out and about, meeting people, preventing loneliness, and alleviating mental health issues which may result from this.
Future Aims:
MCT believes that, as a community, we must do everything we can to limit our environmental impact. This new electric minibus will help MCT to ensure that transport is accessible to elderly and disabled individuals while still operating at a sustainable and environmentally friendly level.
About the Minibus:
When researching which E-Minibus would best serve the Merton community, the Renault Master Z.E. LM35 Business Electric 57kw (Euro6) FWD was chosen. This new E-Minibus will fully comply with the London Mayor’s Transport Strategy, Healthy Streets Approach, and meet the Ultra-Low Emission Zone requirements. Your donations will contribute to the purchase price of £78,937 + Vat as well as a 22kw dual charging station which will cost £3,600 plus VAT.
COVID-19 Support:
During the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of vulnerable and isolated people with mobility needs are not able to easily get items they need such as food and medication, or have the support to attend non-emergency medical appointments. MCT has been providing a free service to Merton groups, organisations and individuals who are affiliated to MCT which include door to door transport provision for individuals to and from shops, collection and delivery of food or other essentials from family, friends and food banks, re-distribution of food between food banks, delivery of medication from pharmacies to housebound individuals and providing non-emergency transport services to and from medical appointments at local NHS Trusts. Our vision is that no Merton resident should go without essential requirements during the COVID-19 outbreak due to lack of transport.
Feedback from our users:
"Many thanks for your services last weekend for our Cub camp, it all worked perfectly. We look forward to using you again for these sorts of services, and also to train our Leaders to be able to drive your buses."
"Merton Community Transport (MCT) assisted us with our Excursion trip; we were very pleased with the service. “Thank you so much to the entire team and we look forward to booking MCT again in the near future.”
"The Driver and Passenger Assistant are brilliant, they make my day fulfilled; knowing that my son will really enjoy his journey to and from school. Couldn’t ask for better; I am very pleased with the service, well done, thank you Merton Community Transport."
"I want to say thank you to all the drivers that have taken me to visit my husband who is in a local nursing home. They have all, without exception, been most helpful to me, helping me in and out of the vehicle and kind and friendly with a smile and a chat which makes all the difference."
"A huge thank you to the “base” organisers and the driver for enabling Merton Seniors to have the use of one of your buses at very short notice. It enabled 8 older people from residential care who have not been out for a very long time, to come to an afternoon tea at the lovely Warren House Hotel. We are very very grateful for all your efforts and kindness."
"Thank you so much for all of your help, support, organisation, reliability and kindness whenever we have spoken and for providing the transport for both of our communication groups and taking good care of our clients on their journeys. I really appreciate it."
"I just wanted to thank you, on behalf of King’s College School, for organising the three Merton Minibuses and drivers for our tea party yesterday. The drivers were so lovely and gave me complete confidence from the moment they arrived, knowing exactly where they were meant to be going and were clearly very experienced in dealing with the elderly. They even had to rejig the routes for the return journey which they organized themselves and just let me know what was happening which was great. Would you pass on our sincere thanks to the three drivers who were just brilliant."
"I just wanted to express my appreciation for the way that your service supported a person who was in need of transport to the local hospital. I contacted the Community Transport Service, who responded, and was able within 15 minutes to arrange regular transport for the person at a quarter of the cost which they had been paying. Many thanks to the Community Transport Service for the helpful way in which this need was met."
"I also want to say a huge thank you for all your help on our recent outing to The Bluebell Railway. All the clients commented on how nice, friendly and accommodating the drivers were and how they added to the day. For me, their professionalism really made the day far less stressful."
