Zarach - Behind Every Bed is a Story

Aim

Funds raised will provide brand-new beds for children living in bed poverty, and family engagement support to bring lasting positive change.

At Zarach, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive - and that starts with a good night’s sleep. Too many children are going to bed sleeping on the floor, in crowded beds shared with siblings, or other makeshift sleeping arrangements. In short, they are living in bed poverty. We know this affects their health, education, and overall wellbeing. Our mission is to end child bed poverty, helping children get a good night’s sleep, and the chance to thrive at school.

To achieve our mission, we go beyond beds. It is our family engagement that builds upon the provision of beds, providing direct support, engaging local partners, and helping families move forward. Once we know the required beds and bundles have been delivered, we return and see how families are getting on with their new sleeping arrangements. It is at the follow-up visit that we speak to families about any other challenges they are experiencing where no existing support is yet in place. We then work with families to create an action plan and undertake signposting activities to organisations that can help. We put significant effort into building good relationships with a wide range of public sector and community organisations to enable effective signposting to happen and families get the support they need to improve their situation. 

By addressing both immediate need and long-term stability, we aim to empower families to move forward with hope and independence. Providing bed bundles for children also has significant positive impacts on wider family life, including parents who can then access their own beds, sleep better, improve their own mental health and wellbeing, and therefore be in a better position to access and sustain employment. Providing a bed alone won’t end child bed poverty in England. We want to support children and families to rise from surviving to thriving so when they need beds again, they don’t need us.

This Christmas, the money we raise will help us reach even more families in crisis. It will fund the delivery of complete bed bundles (beds, mattresses, bedding, and pyjamas) alongside tailored family support. Every donation will help children get a good night’s sleep, attend school ready to learn, and give parents the support they need to build brighter futures, take control of their wellbeing and be more financially independent.
