Zafran Horses Help to Heal
Who are we?
ZHHH is a ‘non-profit’ organization based in Great Ayton aiming to provide public benefit to individuals in the local community who are disadvantaged through age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other means.
Our Vision
At ZHHH we will have a range of qualified experts and support staff that can provide innovative, caring and supportive life experiences tailored to the needs of the individual. This includes work opportunities and is open to individuals of all ages and backgrounds who have would benefit from the therapeutic effects of working with animals, horticulture and the environment.
Background Information
Sue Wilkinson was born and bred in the North East of England and has always had a passion for horses. Sue suffered a spinal cord injury through a riding accident in her early 30s resulting in paralysis from the neck down and was told she would never walk again. Having overcome many of the challenges her injury created, Sue has a passion to provide opportunities for other people. It is a combination of her passion for horses and personal trauma that has led to the creation of ZHHH.
Proposed facilities:
Equine Assisted Therapy
This comprises of a range of practical activities involving horses that are designed and selected to help assist people in supporting their personal physical, mental and emotional well being. These activities are specifically designed to meet the needs of the individual with progress monitored and reviewed. As Winston Churchill said "There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man."
Hydrotherapy
The healing properties of hydrotherapy are based on the thermal effects of the heated water. There is a weightlessness feeling when submerged in the pool and the water relieves your body of much of the effects of gravity. Water also has a hydrostatic effect and has a massage-like feeling as the water gently kneads your body and when the water is moving it stimulates the touch receptors on the skin, increasing blood circulation and releasing tight muscles
Residential Respite
The proposed purpose built log cabins will be specifically designed to provide respite facilities for you and your family in a non-clinical environment. They would be situated centrally in Great Ayton (North Yorkshire) within an easy drive to the coastline and the North Yorkshire Moors. These cabins are equipped with all the home comforts you would expect from holiday accommodation.
Wellbeing Clinic
The proposed onsite wellbeing clinic will offer a range of healing treatments and beauty services from qualified staff. Available by appointment, the staff would be on hand to pamper and relax you by providing treatments such as reflexology, Indian head massage, reiki, full or part body massages, pedicures, manicures, ear candling and camouflage make up for physical injuries such as scarring to the face and body.
