We work with young people aged 10-18 in Newhaven by providing safe, warm spaces for them to meet their friends and gain advice and support.
Newhaven Youth For Christ works in the port town of Newhaven, East Sussex. We work with young people aged 10-18 to support them as they transition from youth to adulthood by providing safe, warm spaces for them to socialise in sessions run by trusted adults. We also offer one to one mentoring, food and advice in four youth sessions a week plus an annual camping trip.

Community impact
Many of the young people we work with are still experiencing the additional mental health and isolation challenges as a result of living through a pandemic. They really need the groups we provide to meet friends and build relationships with adults who care and are able to help them. This past year we have been able to make a difference to the lives of young people on issues such bullying, mental health issues such as anxiety, and offer practical help for families struggling financially. We love it when parents contact us to tell us how our working is making a difference to their son or daughter.

Why are we crowdfunding?
We are reliant on donations and grant applications to meet our costs and both are harder to come by since the cost of living crisis. We had a shortfall this year of £2,600. If we do not receive enough grants to make up the shortfall in donations, we would sadly have to reduce the number of groups we run each week and reduce our staffing.

We rely on donations and grants to raise funds to pay our sessional workers to keep our groups open. The cost of living crisis has meant a rise in costs such as energy costs at our youth club venues and less young people can afford to pay our subs. So any funding we raise will be spent on sessional worker salaries and rent for our hall - both vital to keep our sessions open.
