About Us
Community Supporters is an environmental education charity based in Bexhill, Rother, UK. Our vision is a world where communities live at one with nature.
One of our big focus areas is to support young people in the area to have a voice and take an active role in environmental learning, discussion and action. Since getting our charity number is June 2021 we have hosted youth activities such as beach & forest school activities, held regular workshops at our Eco Hub, and the young people themselves have organised themselves into the Young Pollinators group which has achieved many projects across the area. Most recently they were learning about sustainability and ended up working alongside the Bexhill Town Council and artists and the Old Ambulance Station (makers space) to create a reusable Christmas tree sculpture out of repurposed and recycled materials. This sculpture is currently on display at Devonshire Square, Bexhill.
The group have also worked alongside Bexhill in Bloom, Age UK, Bexhill Men's Shed, Sussex Wildlife Trust, and the UNA Climate & Oceans, on projects such as a peace garden, Recycled wooden benches, King's Coronation planters, and the Oceans Symposium event.
The Problem
The young people currently only get to meet for 2 hours each Saturday due to the space available at the Eco Hub also being used for other groups and other activities. It is sadly not able to be a dedicated space for young people tofully be themselves and relax. The group would also like an opportunity to get together for longer and on other days of the week, a place they can call their own, not only to work on their projects but to just be kids, complete school homework, or be safe from the elements.
Young Nature Hub
The young people have sourced a potential venue is Sidley and are currently fundraising to cover set up and running costs, such as deposit, rent, equipment, etc. This space would be open to all ages from 0-18, supported by trained staff. There will be a host of planned activities around nature and being environmentally friendly but there will also be opportunities to just come and relax with books, games, and and quiet area.
Support and signposting will be available for young people who are going through a tough time and there will be opportunities to undertake training and build CVs/life skills ready for entering the workplace. This will include Duke of Edinburgh volunteering, Crest Awards, and work experience.
Young people can be as involved as they wish and be championed to reach their full potential.
